I woke up determined that I was going to be fine. I called a
friend of mine who is an energy-worker and he performed a distance healing
session with me. During the session, I
felt twitching in my left leg but my right leg was dead.
I decided to drive (like an idiot) to assist with our dojo’s
summer camp field trip to the aquarium. I absolutely love aquariums and
anticipated a tranquil experience. Not so much. Standing, moving, shifting,
even sitting hurt. After the field trip, my knee felt like it was on fire. I
rode back as a passenger (smarter decision this time) and was so worn out and
in pain, Richard brought me home. Again, he stayed with me for the rest of the
day.
We researched and researched and researched. Everything we
came up with pointed to surgery. And the surgery does not look like an
enjoyable procedure. The doc takes either your patellar tendon or a piece of
your hamstring and “creates” a new acl. A hole is drilled through your tibia
and femur and the new “acl” is inserted and literally screwed in place with the
help of a guiding pin. The guiding pin is then shoved up and pulled out through
your upper thigh muscles. Lovely.
I began to get disheartened. Everything I read, even posts by
my facebook friends and conversations on the phone suggested surgery. My up
turned to a down and I thought about the long and difficult recovery process.
I had enough energy to ride up to the dojo I train at with
Richard and pick up a copy of the video with the fight that caused the injury.
When we got home, I couldn’t watch it.
