I went to the gym for the first
time in six-weeks. It felt awesome to get back there. Obviously, I just did
upper body but it was great! I also had a session in an infrared bed. It’s said
to help heal. Infrared rays penetrate deep in to the layers of the body, down
to tissue, muscles and bone. I told the owner of the gym that I’d come out of
the room running after my treatment. He got a laugh from that.
That’s when things took a
downslide. My fourth session with Dr. Xiao and I walked out feeling worse than
ever. I had tweaked my shoulder at the dojo a couple weeks ago and then
re-tweaked it at the gym this morning. I told Dr. Xaio that it was bothering me
and after a torturous “massage” he adjusted my neck. Not good. My muscles went
in to spasm and completely locked up. I received acupuncture for my knee and
while waiting for that session to end, my shoulder got worse and worse. Once my
acupuncture session was complete I told Dr. Xiao it was worse (bad decision)
and he proceeded to literally DIG in to my shoulder and adjust my neck once
more. He didn’t get it all the way and it was a mess. He put some herbal muscle
relief patches on my shoulder and sent me on my way.
The pain was horrible for the rest of
the day. I got a mani/pedi (I haven’t treated myself to one of those in more
than a month!) but was in so much pain, I just wanted to leave. Afterwards, I
went to my Ortho-bionomy appointment and she focused mostly on my shoulder and
neck. By the time I got home I could barely move. I put on a heating pad and
didn’t budge from the couch. I have to say, my neck took my mind off my knee!
So here’s my thought: No more adjustments
from Dr. Xiao. The massage they give doesn’t actually relax the muscles because
they dig in so hard. There’s nothing you can do but tense and guard which
causes the muscles to just tighten up even more. That is super counterproductive.
The adjustment can’t take that way because the muscles just spasm and lock
down, which pulls the bones back out of alignment. On the other hand, the treatment
he’s doing for my knee is phenomenal so I’m not pissed. Just learned a valuable
lesson.
